One of the riders present at EICMA was Jorge Lorenzo. The Majorcan stopped by VMoto to see all the latest products brought to the market by the brand committed to the electric front. For the past four years, the Majorcan has been committed to sustainability, espousing his green commitment.
"It's always a pleasure to be here at Eicma," the #99 told us, "there are so many people, so many motorcycles, the public and the latest innovations. I am happy to continue the journey with VMoto because the world is changing and we are going in a more sustainable direction. We grew up with two-strokes, then came four-strokes and now electric, which marks a new turning point. We all have to engage in the day-to-day to build a more sustainable world."
Jorge, Eicma week takes us toward the finale in Barcelona. Did you expect that Martin would be in front of Pecco?
"Both made mistakes because the level was so high and there was so much pressure, as a result it became easy to make mistakes. This World Championship will eventually be decided by the Sprints since Jorge was able to pick up more than Pecco. Last year Martin had maybe more speed than Bagnaia, but he made some important mistakes like in Indonesia. This year, however, he was able to be consistent and that made the difference."
Marquez, on the other hand, will fight for third place with Bastianini. Would you have imagined that?
"I expected him to do well, even though his bike was inferior to the GP24, especially in terms of acceleration and straight line speed. All this means a gap lap after lap. With the same bike as Bagnaia he will be stronger, but it won't be a walk in the park for Marc. It will be difficult for both of them to win, and we will also see what the other manufacturers do."
What Marquez is the one of today?
"The Jerez injury brought him a physical handicap that still affects him today. The limitations of his right arm you see in braking, as a result he has to look for more balance with his body to struggle less and all that makes him less comfortable. By this I do not mean that he will not win the title, but he has one more limitation than four years ago. At the same time he is a more conscious Marquez while before he was more carefree and fearless about crashing. Now, however, he thinks about it more. So we will see if it will be his head or his physique that will make the difference."
Jorge, you know Dall'Igna well. Did you imagine he would bring him to the factory team?
"Marc chose sporting results more than money, coming to the contractual termination with Honda. In the past months he worked a lot with his manager to convince Ducati to take him or he would have gone to KTM. Eventually the work off the track paid off and it came down to taking a different path than Martin."
What will Bagnaia have to do to beat Marc next year?
"Pecco will just have to think about improving his weak points, to try to be a complete rider, without thinking about Marquez. I am convinced that if it is not for the next one, he will fight for other world championships in the future."
Jorge, what do you think about this MotoGP?
"As a sport I really like it because the challenges are great and fierce. Then there is the Sprint and FP2 on Friday are already decisive for qualifying. The problem is that in today's MotoGP all the riders are brothers, while fans want rivalry, meaning two riders who hate each other sportingly. Also, if the bikes would wheelie more and there would be less aerodynamics there would be even more spectacle."
You at Honda tried to chart an alternative path to Marquez's. Did you ever think that if they listened to you more, they most likely wouldn't be struggling like they are today?
"At that time no one would have imagined what happened to Marc in 2020. Without the Assen crash, if I had stayed in Honda, I would have dictated the development and the way forward and maybe the story would have been different. In the end though, that's what happened, with ifs you don't go anywhere, and I'm happy from my career."
