Kenny Roberts is preparing to return as manager in MotoAmerica and will do so in partnership with Arney Wick's Fastrack Racing in the Parts Unlimited Talent Cup starting next season. His goal is to nurture young talents who dream of a future on an international level and on the MotoGP grid, since he's helped riders in the past, such as his son, Kenny Jr, but especially Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, and John Kocinski.
The debut of the only rider who's been lined up (at least for the time being), namely three-time American Flat Track champion Kody Kopp, will take place in the Texan MotoGP round March 28th to 30th. The bike he'll be riding will be a KrämerAPX-350 MA designed specifically for the series.
"I've never befeore seen a U.S. championship that trains for the MotoGP. That makes it more complicated because you have to be on the right bike. The talent cup is an opportunity to showcase the skills of the riders. In my opinion, the dirt track remains the first step, but the same material here will be provided to everyone, something that has never happened so far. For me, this is a return to the world arenas. I hope to be able to hear the American anthem on the podium. I'm excited to open a new chapter in my career and to do it with Roberts," the rider - who has 21 race wins behind him - said.
MotoAmerica President, Wayne Rainey, was also elated: "Having Kenny as a team owner is a win for everyone. His presence in the paddock will create global interest. It will be interesting to see how Kopp, a flat track champion, will develop under his leadership. Kody couldn't have had a better teacher since he's both rider and team owner."
