The Malaysian weekend ended with Bagnaia's 10th win in the long race after putting on a show with a breathtaking duel in the early laps against Jorge Martin's GP24. Thanks to his victory in the Sprint and Bagnaia's fall on Saturday, the Spanish rider is still at the top of the standings with a 24-point lead. The final fight for the title has gotten tougher for Bagnaia. They now have one last chance to battle it out on the track in Barcelona after the terrible events in Valencia. Sepang was also a weekend during which Quartararo and Rins progressed on their Yamahas, and Andrea Iannone returned to racing ib the VR46 team's GP23 that was once ridden by Di Giannantonio, who decided to have surgery.
Carlo Pernat's commentary:
"Everything will be decided in Barcelona, which will replace Valencia. This weekend, we witnessed a spectacle that had been missing for a few years. During the first laps, Bagnaia and Martin exchanged some masterpiece overtakes. They should make a video of that and use it for riding schools, so riders can learn how to ride, but also how to risk a lot like they did. Bagnaia won his tenth race and is behind Martin by twenty-four points, That's incredible. Bagnaia demonstrated that he wanted to be the strongest, while Martin was lucky in the middle of the race when he almost lost his bike. I don't know how he was able to save it, Maybe because of the saint of bikes, They both did a different sport. Third place for Bastianini, who was angry after having problems with his bike all weekend. He gained twelve points on Marc Marquez. Now there's only a one-point gap between the two. I think we'll be seeing fireworks in the final showdown. Even if Martin has a seventy percent advantage, the championship could end as early as the Sprint."
"Bagnaia is, however, strong-willed. He's like a phoenix. Every time it seems like he's done for, he comes back. In Sepang, he won the race as a champion. He couldn't accept a second place. Ten races won are a lot. For the rest, we saw Marc make a mistake. He's not like he was in the past. Now he makes more mistakes, because he's always over the limit. Strangely, he fell at a left-handed turn. A mistake that he paid dearly for and that will force him to fight for third place this season in Barcelona. We also saw a good Alex Marquez who finished fourth. And Acosta had a good race on his KTM. I'd also like to highlight the good race of the Yamaha riders. Both Quartararo and Rins progressed, which we didn't expect before next year."
"Maybe next year they'll be new rivals while, as for Honda, apart from Zarco a few times, they couldn't do better than usual. Finally, kudos also to Andrea Iannone who jumped into this race without any preparation. He's probably won't participate in the next race. Maybe we'll see Michele Pirro on the track. But Iannone demonstrated that he still has his talent, despite not racing for four years, and he did it in a very different MotoGP. His weekend was worthy of praise. We're not celebrating today because of the tragedy that happened in Valencia. We give our solidarity. It would be nice if a part of the earnings from Barcelona went to help Valencia, to those who died and suffered. The situation is still critical, Valencia, we're with you."
