David Alonso makes history again in Sepang, equaling Valentino Rossi by taking his sixth consecutive victory and 13th of the season. A race in which the Colombian rider, immediately in the leading group in the early laps, was able to react after the forced wide to dodge the fall of Holgado. A hiccup that had pushed him down to 13th, but that only slowed the irrepressible advance of the CFMoto rider. With nine laps to go Alonso was already in the podium zone, with three laps to go the final attack on the Japanese Furusato, an overtaking move that consigned him to history by placing him alongside Valentino Rossi's 1997 achievements.
"I raced for the team and for Spain. However, in these difficult moments I do not feel like celebrating, I dedicate the victory to Valencia and I will donate the prize of this victory to the fundraiser that with the team we have created to help the people affected by the flood, " the young Colombian later said at the parc ferme.
A second step of the podium and a narrow result by a few thousandths for Japanese Taiyo Furusato, flanked by Spaniard Rueda 3rd who took third place with the KTM of the Ajo team. Fourth at the checkered flag Ivan Ortola, followed by Dutchman Collin Veijer 5th, who goes tied on points in the standings with Holgado, who crashed today, in the battle for second place in the championship. Sixth place for Australian Kelso, followed by Yamanaka 7th.
Three Italians round out the top ten: Stefano Nepa 8th for MTA is the best of the Italians in Sepang, followed by Bertelle 9th with the Snipers team and Lunetta 10th for the SIC58 racing team. Further back is Farioli 13th while Carraro and Rossi do not finish the race.
Of note, in addition to Holgado's crash, were the problems apparently related to the new Honda engine that forced an early retirement for Scott Ogden, the very competitive Adrian Fernandez and rookie Piqueras, both from the Leopard team.
