Dorna and FIM announced the cancellation of the Valencia Grand Prix yesterday. After the floods that devasted the area, finding another venue for the end of the season was the right decision to make. At first, there were at least 5 options, including Jerez, Portimão, and Aragon. But these three seem to have been excluded from the list so, right now, there are only two left.
The first is Qatar. In this case, the date planned for the season finale, namely, the weekend of November 17th, will remain the same. The MotoGP would race two weeks before the Formula 1, which will be held on December 1st. If a decision is made for Losail, only the premier class would race, leaving the Moto2 and Moto3 at home. Testing could also be held on the same track, maybe as early as the Monday after the race, so that the circuit will be quickly available for the F1.
The second option is Barcelona. Here, the date would be postponed to the weekend of November 24th or December 1st. The two minor classes could also race at Montmeló, and there would be no problem with testing on Tuesday if needed. However, Dorna's top management is still doubtful whether or not it's holding a GP in Spain after the disaster in Valencia will be appropriate.
A decision will probably be reached by tomorrow.
