MotoGP, Quartararo: "I've talked more with Marmorini than with my mom this year."

"At first I didn't believe in his ideas all the way. Access into Q2 is not thanks to the new engine. I don't know if it broke or not, but with the new engine I did one and a half laps. We changed the management with the electronics."

MotoGP: Quartararo:

Friday at Sepang brought a big smile to Fabio Quartararo. At the end of FP2, the Frenchman was in fact sixth with his Yamaha, gaining direct access into Q2. Obviously El Diablo is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, aware that the weekend is only just beginning.

"I must say it was a good day," he said, "I knew I would suffer in the time attack, also because on the first lap I found a yellow flag. I was confident, though, because this morning I was impressed in the dry lap with the hard, in fact it was a long time since I felt these sensations."

How useful was the new engine?
"Actually I only did one and a half laps with the new engine, in fact then I had to stop. We experienced a problem, I don't know if the engine broke or not, but I had to stop in the straight. In the end I used the same bike from Thailand, and this result is not thanks to the new engine."

Also in the top 10 is Rins.
"I don't know what kind of work he did. I personally felt good about the bike. There are some things to improve such as grip and power, because we are limited on the engine level."

What was the step forward made here in Malaysia?
"We changed the way we manage the electronics. I am riding in a completely different way than before. It's a little difficult to adapt, because trying to forget some things, otherwise I risk a highside. That said, I'm happy with this day."

Do you think it's a turning point?
"We have been talking about changing the way we work on the electronics for a long time, but we had never taken this step. In the end we have nothing to lose and we are already preparing for next year."

Have you talked about this with Marmorini as well?
"Of course! It comes from him this idea. I've talked a lot more with him than with my mom this year. We have been talking to each other for a long time. At the beginning of the year I didn't fully believe in his ideas. Then step by step we improved, knowing that it is a long process."
