From victory on Saturday to the gravel on Sunday. A bitter epilogue that of Buriram for Enea Bastianini, forced to raise the white flag due to a crash. Despite the mistake, the Ducati rider still managed to rejoin the race, finishing 14th ahead of the Honda of Mir.
Immediately after the race, however, the Romagna rider went to the race direction along with Davide Tardozzi for a very clear reason.
"I went to race direction because I wanted to clarify some things," he said, "when Marquez had to give back the position, in theory he should have given it to me, since I was the rider behind him. Marquez was sly, however, because he passed Nakagami right away and then let him overtake. Let's say that this can set a precedent and needs to be clarified, although Marc was very smart to take advantage of this situation to not lose time."
Should he have given the position back to the rider on whom he gained it?
"Exactly! It is not a rule, but the moment it is signaled you should do it right away, without having 3 laps to spare like now. However, in race management I did not get a clear answer: they said they understood, but nothing more. Let's say there are things that are very unclear to all the riders."
Did that or something else bother you more?
"I was more bothered by the mistake in the race, when at Turn 1 Quartararo entered and we went out. Also, the moment I came back in I had to close the throttle, losing a lot of positions, exactly as happened to Pecco yesterday. I then got to the turn 3 braking where I was behind, afterwards I pushed hard, getting up to seventh position and then there was the crash. It's too bad, because in the first two laps I felt as if I was riding on oil and I suffered a lot with the front."
What would have been the achievable result?
"I could have fought for the podium. Maybe not the victory, but with Acosta I would have fought it out."
What do you think of this worldf championship battle between Pecco and Martin?
"I expected Pecco's comeback. I didn't understand why he struggled to get back to the front there, but for sure this win was needed. It's a good open fight between the two of them."
What about the one with Marc for third place?
"No one seems to want to win it..."
Now there's Malaysia...
"I definitely have good memories and good results there, but each year is a different matter."
