Second in both sessions so far, Jorge Martin was optimistic and calm thinking about the continuation of the Thai weekend. Aware that he has a very competitive machine and a good 20-length lead in the standings, the Pramac rider revealed what his approach will be for the coming days.
"Before coming here I was nervous because in my mind I'm always thinking about what could happen, but then when I get on the track everything comes back in and I'm immediately fast. All the ghosts disappear. Marquez and Bagnaia were very fast today, but I'm in the game. In Free Practice 1 when I lapped with the preheated tire I set the third fastest time and that surprised me, instead I struggled more with the hard compound that already had 22 laps on it, but overall everything was good," he said.
"In case of a duel with Bastianini or Marc I already know that it will be complicated, as having nothing to lose they do not care if they crash. I think what Enea did at Misano was unfair because he went off the track and hit me, so I think those five points lost are mine. Marc on the other hand was aggressive in Australia, but at least he didn't hit me, he played his cards and had a very good race. Here I hope to be able to get away so that I don't give others the opportunity to be together at the last corner," he continued, recalling recent battles that made him wince.
Of course, there is a World Championship at stake. "From here on, all the weekends will be decisive. I want to focus on myself and if Pecco proves to be more competitive I will try to leave him with as few points as possible. In any case I don't want to obsess about this aspect, I just want to be competitive. Last year I was fixated on winning, but now I try to enjoy free practice and the whole process as well. We are all showing an incredible level," he acknowledged his own growth and a change in basic attitude.
"Would I sign up for today's result for this weekend? Definitely, but I don't think it will go that way. As I said, I feel good, but the two Ducati riders are also in good shape, so I expect a heated race. Tomorrow I'll try to lower the circuit record, but above all I'll try to do well in the Sprint and get the front row in qualifying to get in front in the first corner. The tire? I'm doing well on the medium, but so are the others, so we'll see. Compared to the competition, I did a simulation of Saturday's race and this plays in my favour. Today the bike was flying, so hopefully it will be the same tomorrow," he concluded.
