Aleix Espargarò is arriving in Buriram with the goal of giving Aprilia a weekend of competitiveness. This is going to be his third-to-last race before saying good-bye to the MotoGP and becoming test rider forHonda. So, he's confident in himself and aware of the fact that the Thai test will be one of those with a high-difficulty coefficient because of all it turns.
"This round is going to be really tough because of the high temperatures that the bike reaches and, at the same time, because of the physical grip," he explained. "We talked with the engineers so that we can counter it with some solutions to cool the RS-GP better. We'll see what happens."
Aleix, what do you think about the challenge between Bagnaia and Martin?
"I don't think this duel is bad. Having a championship in which two or more riders are battling it out is better than a world championship with champions who have already been decided from the beginning. This year, Pecco's and Martin's level is much higher than the others."
At Phillip Island, Raul Fernandez raced without wings. Did you ever think about doing that?
"No. Maybe I could've done it in free practice, but not in the race, even if it's hard to understand what they were looking for. I haven't actually asked Albesiano yet, although Phillip Island remains the only track where you can make such a choice. I honestly don't know how much we gained."
Thailand will host the first GP next year, do you think it's the right place?
"That's a good question! I don't think so. I honestly don't know. It depends on what target you want to reach, but I don't know. As a European, I'd say no, but such a response isn't correct. But there are a lot of people in the world and, in the past, it started in Qatar."
What do you think about the penalty given to Bezzecchi after what happened in Phillip Island with Viñales?
"With the current aerodynamics, it becomes easy to make a mistake on that part of the track at Phillip Island. However, the problem is this ... if it was the first year that we were using wings, I could also understand it, but that's not the case. The one caused by Bezzecchi was a big crash. He certainly didn't do it on purpose, but he made a big mistake and was punished as if he had obstructed a rider in the middle of the group on his flying lap.In my opinion, that's not fair. He deserved a more severe penalty."
