With three races to go, Franco Morbidelli is also looking back on his season in general. A season that began with an incident that forced him to skip crucial tests. It was therefore a championship uphill, one of growth, with the first decent results arriving precisely at Misano where the Roman demonstrated that he could be a part of the game. It is with this spirit then that the rider of the Pramac team tackles the final rush, with the desire to insert himself in that quartet that in the last races will decide the fate of this world championship. The possibility that he will also be called upon to choose between friendship and loyalty to the team is not so remote.
What do you think of the championship, there are two riders fighting for the title, like last year, is that good for MotoGP?
"Yes, it is clear that if the fight involved more riders it would be more fun," Morbidelli began, "but the head-to-head between Pecco and Martin is also really nice, as it was last year. Both deserve to fight for the title and it will be great for the fans to follow the outcome of this battle. It will also be exciting to see how riders like Marc and Enea will fit into this. I would also like to enter the fray even though I have had to fight for the midfield positions lately. In any case, I prefer this duel until the last race to a championship where you already know who has won, and I think that's also a good thing for the riders involved."
Who do you see as the favorite?
"Right now I agree with Marc when he says Martin is favored, also because he has a 20-point lead in the standings. At the level of speed on the track and performance, however, I see them both as equals."
If you were in the middle, you would be forced to choose between a historical friendship and a teammate.
"At that time I will have to remember that I am a racer and focus on what I want, which is to win."
What have your difficulties been due to in these last few races?
"The level these guys can bring out is impressive, we couldn't maintain it until the end of the race. Clearly the starting position also played a part, apart from the one in Misano 1, where I crashed, however. It's a combination of the start and the pace."
The start of the season was not easy, are you satisfied with your run so far or did you expect more?
"I am very satisfied considering how we started. I was used to quite different results last year anyway. Everything is going much better, we are in a phase of being very close to the best. For one reason or another we have not been able to do better and we have been missing something. The podium at Misano was the best result but we've had a lot of top 5s. We are the first (among the Ducatis, ed.) after the fantastic four, but I would rather be a part of it."
Of the three remaining races, which one might be your best chance?
"I like all three, Phillip Island was the most difficult, I've always struggled a lot on that circuit. We know what we want to achieve, we'll see if we can do it in this last phase of the championship."
