MotoGP: Australian Grand Prix: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Marc Marquez sees his reflection in the ocean and finds success. Jorge Martin is well-pleased and well-served. Pecco Bagnaia limits the damage, but not enough so. Joys and sorrows on the most beautiful track in the world, which seems to please the local wildlife almost as much as the riders.

THE GOOD - Archimedes requested a lever, Marc Marquez a Ducati to lift his world. This time, there was no lack of grip or complicated conditions to help him. It's his third win of the year but maybe his most important. The one that says a leopard can't change its spots ... in winning.

THE BAD - We like Franco Morbidelli, but not in these last few races. Some would sell their grandmother to ride his bike. He has it, but seems to want to keep it hidden. What's missing is that flair, that spark, that result that makes us say: welcome back, Franco. Guess we'll just have to wait.

THE UGLY - There was a flock of seagulls, some geese, and a rabbit. All that was missing were two unicorns. More than a track, Phillip Island sometimes looks like a zoo. At every GP, a few birds buy the farm and a few riders grow a handful of white hair. The allure of the wilderness is all well and good, but this is going a bit too far.

THE DISAPPOINTMENT - For Bagnaia, Phillip Island is that girl you've fallen head over heels for, but also the one that never agrees to a date. Pecco likes it, but it's an unrequited love. The turn down cost him 10 points. Totally gone.

THE CONFIRMATION - Mini-champion David Alonso makes his way into the record book by equaling Valentino Rossi, with 11 seasonal wins in the cadet class. We called him "mini," but only because of his age.

THE ERROR - Surely, Bezzecchi committed it (unintentionally) by rear-ending Viñales in the Sprint. However, after getting up unscathed from such a fall, one might wait a bit before externalizing one's mood with his index finger. Right, Maverick?

THE SURPRISE - Casey Stoner's eyes must have sparkled when he saw a bike without wings. Raul Fernandez performed an experiment by racing without the front spoilers on his Aprilia. An experiment that was certainly successful for the most conservative of fans.

THE OVERTAKE - Marc Marquez's signature dish. He seasons it with a different spice each time, and never gets sick of it, but he'd prefer to complicate his life a bit less at the start. However, we're not complaining ... from our couch.

THE ANECDOTE - Ducati still had some records to break. They had never put six bikes ahead of everyone in a GP. Before yesterday.

THE I TOLD YOU SO - Bagnaia on Friday: "No one is managing to make a difference, not even Marquez." Marc must have heard him!
