MotoGP, Di Giannantonio: "The incident between Bezzecchi and Vinales? I was scared."

"A piece of their bike hit me and punctured the titanium plate on the shoulder of my suit." Fabio was demoted from 5th to 7th place due to tire pressure, "it's not crazy to think about the podium for tomorrow."

MotoGP: Di Giannantonio:

Di Giannantonio finished the Phillip Island Sprint in 5th place, but a too low tire pressure reading took that result away from him. After the appropriate checks, in fact, the Stewards handed down the regulation 8 seconds penalty and so Fabio dropped to 7th. A pity after the good comeback race of which he was the protagonist.

The penalty, however, is not what the Roman will remember from today's Sprint, because he was a close spectator of the terrible crash between Bezzecchi and Vinales at the first corner.

"It was one of the scariest moments of my life: you're at 350 kph and you see two bikes in front of you explode," Diggia recounted, "I tried to avoid the pieces, but two or three hit me, they pierced the titanium plate on the shoulder of the suit, even the fairing broke. I didn't really understand what happened, all I can say is that it was one of the few moments in my life when I was scared on a motorcycle."

Those images affected him, but the satisfaction of a good performance also remains. When Di Giannantonio spoke to the media, he did not yet know that he would be penalized.

"It 's too bad that I always have a hard time at the start," he complained, "There's a reason, in the second part of the acceleration the bike rears so much because I don't have an optimal position on the bike. I hope next year they can help me improve. It was a great comeback because on the first lap I was 16th, but I had a great pace and could pass pretty much anyone in front of me. The race ended a little too early, because I think there was for the potential to get close to Pecco, maybe even Enea. Still, I'm happy, it was my best Sprint in terms of performance and it's positive ahead of tomorrow. Especially after this morning, where I made one mistake too many and threw away qualifying."

Despite his physical condition, Fabio is managing to stay close to the top of the class.

"Physically I'm better and the fact that here there are all left-hand turns helps me. On the right, however, I don't even touch with my elbow because I can't get into the right position. Even in the straights I always have the worst speeds because I can't get myself in the fairing," he revealed, "It's a shame to stop, but operating is the right decision. However, I have a good potential for tomorrow, the podium is not something crazy, I just have to start well. It will take a smart race."
