Fermin Aldeguer triumphed in Saturday's Phillip Island qualifying session. The Speed Up team's Spanish rider put his signature on a 1'30''876, the only rider to go under 1'31 in the category. Chasing him, and gaining the front row for himself, is a competitive Aron Canet for the Fantic team, two tenths behind and joined by the other Speed Up team rider, Alonso Lopez, placing the second Boscoscoscuro on the front row.
Ramirez was 4th, reaching the second row, followed by Baltus 5th and Gonzalez 6th. Japan's hampionship leader, Ogura, has to settle for a start from the third row. The MT Helmets team's rider is 9th, behind Moreira and Arenas, while Britain's Dixon closes in the top ten. The title contender, Sergio Garcia, didn't get beyond a16th place. As for the Italians, Tony Arbolino ended with an 11th chrono. The Marc VDS team rider will face the Phillip Island corners from the fourth row, just ahead of Dennis Foggia 12th, with the ItalTrans team, after the Q1. Instead, Celestino Vietti is out of the picture thanks to an injury, but he should be returning to the track in Thailand. The weekend is also over for Joe Roberts. The American rider fractured his right scaphoid during a fall in this morning's free practice session.
