Having put the Independent titles, in Team and Rider format, into the trophy cabinet, Danilo Petrucci still has one goal left to achieve in this grand finale of the season at Jerez: to return to the World Superbike podium. Another goal to which the rider from Terni also aspires is that of settling a score with Andrea Iannone, which remains open since his MotoGP days.
"Jerez is a track I like, it's the last race and everyone wants to do well. Us included. It is clear that I would like to keep the fourth place in the World Championship, but even more I would like to get back on the podium - said the Barni Spark Racing team rider - In the last two races I have not been able to do that, so I would like to be able to get back at least once."
A podium he missed out on is precisely one of the memories that resurface in Petrux's memory, thinking about the races he has competed in his career in Andalusia.
"What does Jerez remind me of? It's the first place I scored points in MotoGP. Then, a bad thing is that Iannone in 2018 passed me on the last lap to take the podium. I thought I was going to get on it, but instead he screwed me: he stayed behind me after I caught and passed him and on the last lap he put one over me in traction. I have a score to settle with Iannone. Let's say he owes me a podium here at Jerez," Danilo pointed out. "That was the race where Lorenzo, Pedrosa and Dovizioso collided in Turn 6 and the two of us, who were together, found ourselves fighting for the podium. I have many memories in Jerez and I would like to return to this podium in Superbike as well."
