MotoGP, Di Giannantonio: "I'm having surgery with 2025 in mind, I'll be 100% at the first race"

"Surgery after Thailand is the best compromise. I feel better and better, but the shoulder is weak. I would like to give the team a podium this year, maybe here in Phillip Island."

MotoGP: Di Giannantonio:

Surgery or no surgery? Fabio Di Giannantonio has been flipping through the daisy for months and the last petal decided on surgery. He will still race in Australia and Thailand, then his season will be over. The goal is to fix his shoulder once and for all and be able to start 2025 without that thought again.

Fabio, how did you arrive at this decision?
"With Professor Castagna we agreed that the best time to do it would be after Thailand because I had asked to do as many races as possible. I would have liked not to miss a single one, but we know that the recovery time after surgery is not short and we calculated that this way I can get as close as possible to 100 percent at the first race next year by doing as many races as possible this season. It's the best compromise."

So you won't be able to test the new Desmosedici this year.
"It's a shame to skip the races, but also not to be able to test the new bike in the Valencia test. But I have to be open-minded, intelligent, I have to think that next year will be really important for me and for the team and it was right to try to optimize everything ahead of 2025."

In February, in Sepang, will you be there?
"I will definitely be ready for the Malaysia tests, they are the most important ones of the season."

What is your physical condition right now?
"Every week I am better and I will feel even better in the next few weeks, but obviously the shoulder is weak, it is not healthy. In case of a crash, it could happen, get inflamed, so it's better to stop and have a 'new' shoulder next year. We did some calculations and this seems to be the right way."

Thinking about Australia, what are you aiming for this weekend?
"Phillip Island is a crazy track, last year I went really strong and I would love to get those same feelings back in the saddle even though the bike has changed. I would love to be back fighting in the top and maybe for the podium."

This year is a goal you have not yet achieved.
"It's been close all season, we've been circling around it. I hope this weekend there will be an opportunity, otherwise I will try again in Thailand. I would like to give the team a podium this year."
