MotoGP, Acosta: "I tried to catch Martin, but it was better to finish second than crash."

"I needed to finish a race because I was competitive in both races at Misano, but I crashed. Still, we have to be happy because we are always in the Top 5 and we are getting closer."

MotoGP: Acosta:

After a complicated Sprint Race, which saw him finish in sixth position, Pedro Acosta returned to a starring role in the Indonesian GP, finishing just 1.4s from winner Jorge Martin. A solid and flawless race from the Red Bull GasGas Tech3 team rookie, who took the KTM back to the podium by closely marking the championship leader until the checkered flag, after snatching second from Enea Bastianini in the early stages of the race.

The two-time world champion tried hard to take his first career victory, but even though this goal eluded him, he can still say he was satisfied with the runner-up slot.

"Did I think I could win? Absolutely. I had said since Thursday that this was a good track for us and for the KTM," Acosta began at the press conference commenting on his result. "I am happy because I needed to finish a race, because I was competitive in both races we raced in Misano, but I crashed. I tried to go and catch Martin, but then there came a time, between lap 16 and 17, when he started to pull away again and I said to myself that maybe a second place was better today than another crash, because we needed to gather some more data," he admitted, "In any case, we have to be happy because we are consistently in the Top 5 and it is not at all easy to battle with the Ducatis. We have to be happy because we are getting closer and closer."

In fact, even at Mandalika, Pedro and the Austrian manufacturer confirmed themselves to be the top rivals of the Ducati platoon.

"The team and the company deserve this result because they are working like crazy to bring the bike to the top. We are getting closer and I really want to say thank you to the whole test team with Dani Pedrosa and Pol Espargaró. To all the people in Mattighofen who are working so hard to give us some new things and also to all the people who are here on the track and are dedicating their lives to this project. I think they deserve it even more than I do," Acosta said proudly.
