MotoGP, Martin: "For Bagnaia I was too fast? Easy to talk when you win."

"I looked at all the data and I didn't do anything strange, it doesn't leave you calm not knowing why you crashed. Bastianini the most dangerous opponent tomorrow? My rival is Pecco, not Enea."

MotoGP: Martin:

The Sprint in Indonesia should have been a solo ride for Jorge Martin, but instead it ended like the race at Mandalika last year: with a crash. After a record-breaking pole position, the Spaniard of the Pramac team took the lead at the start, but on the last corner of the first lap he succumbed to gravity. "The only good thing is that I practiced overtaking and reacted well, because from last I finished 10th - he tried to sugarcoat it - Tomorrow I will have another opportunity at a track where I am going very fast, if I had to wait a week and a half I would be more worried."

What happened in that corner?
"A mistake is a mistake, but I was on the usual line, from the data you can't see anything wrong. I didn't do anything special, I don't want to make excuses, but the only thing is that now I know I will have to take it a little slower. Of course, it doesn't leave you calm not understanding why you crashed."

Bagnaia said you were too fast, if you hadn't crashed you would have won by 4 seconds...
"I think it's very easy to talk when you win and your rival has crashed. I hope tomorrow what he said happens and I win with a 4-second lead (laughs)."

What did you think when you found yourself on the ground?
"I simply held the clutch down, got the bike back up and tried to see if I could get some points. I was also close to the fastest lap in the race despite being in traffic, so I can't say I'm happy, but I know I'm ready for tomorrow, I won't have to touch anything on the bike. It's clear that losing points is frustrating and it hurts, especially at a track where I'm fast, but that's the way races are."

Bagnaia called this season "the championship of mistakes."
"When you are in front it is never easy. I don't think I didn't do anything different than usual, in fact I was being careful at that point because I knew the asphalt is slippery there, but if I had come out of that corner we would be talking about a different story. I crashed and now I want to focus on tomorrow."

Tomorrow is the long race, can you make a difference even with the medium tyre?
"Not that, right now Enea and I are one step ahead of everyone in terms of pace. In the warm up I will try to get my confidence back, to better understand how to deal with that last corner, but I feel I am ready to win."

Again Bagnaia admitted that he would be happy with second place behind you tomorrow.
"I would be happy too, you always sign up for a win (laughs). But today, if I had found the right line in that corner, everything would have been perfect."

Will the most dangerous rival for victory be Bastianini?
"We'll see, it will depend on how the race goes, but clearly right now my rival is Bagnaia, it's not Bastianini. I'll start to win, then we'll find out what happens."

How do you feel about having achieved the same number of poles as Wayne Gardner and Barry Sheene?
"When they told me I was thrilled, these are important numbers and I hope to improve them again."
