MotoGP, Mir: "I criticized Honda, but the innovations were useful"

"After the Misano test, I was disheartened. Instead, last weekend, we did well. Compared to the Italian track, there's less grip here, so it's going to be a proving ground. Finishing near the top 10 would be great."

MotoGP: Mir:

After having told off Honda - which was guilty of not having done enough to improve the RC213V for the Misano tests - Joan Mir put things straight on the eve of the Mandalika round, emphasizing what has been done in recent weeks that was good.

With an 11th place last Sunday in Romagna, the Spanish rider acknowledged that: "We have a good base from which to start, so we won't deviate much from last weekend's decisions, even if we're talking about very different circuits, the first with a lot of grip and this one with little, especially in the early rounds."

For the 2020 world champion with Suzuki, Indonesia will be an important proving ground: "We'll have to figure out if the updates related to the fairing and swingarm will be able to give the same positive response even in low grip conditions. I honestly expect some difficulties, since this track presents the worst scenario for us, but it's going to be an opportunity. Finishing close to the top 10 would be great."

So, the bitterness he experienced in the tests may be a distant memory. "At that juncture, I expected better and, instead, we were lucky. Both innovations paid off, making us progress more than expected. Should it also be confirmed this time, then that will be good news," he wishfully concluded.
