MotoGP, Reyes Pla, Olympic boxer: "I'd throw a hook to anyone who booed Marquez"

"The MotoGP resembles boxing in one detail: lots of adrenaline before starting and getting into the ring. Boxing is much loved in the paddock. I hope to train with a rider someday. Marquez is spectacular. I'd throw a hook at anyone who booed him."

MotoGP: Reyes Pla, Olympic boxer:

Last April, Jorge Lorenzo launched a surprising as well as unexpected challenge to one of his historical rivals in the MotoGP: Daniel Pedrosa. A couple of months later, the head-to-head became a reality, even if it was in a televised cut-and-thrust format. Now, this September, boxing is once again the role player in the MotoGP, precisely at Misano: not for a harsh confrontation but for a courtesy visit.

Back from a bronze medal won at the Paris Olympics in the 92-kg category, Cuban-Spanish boxer Enmanuel Reyes Pla arrived in the paddock to meet the Spanish riders and especially his idol, Marquez, with whom he stayed on to take photos and to chat.

"This sport is incredible, so I thank the championship and the federation for allowing me to have this experience. Seeing Marc and Martin up close is impressive. I was told that boxing is much loved in the environment. Who knows, maybe we can organize a training session together so we can teach each other things," the athlete said excitedly while talking to AS.

"Hearing the sound of the engines and watching how the riders focus is unique. For Spain, Marquez is a reference as far as motorcycles are concerned, and it's spectacular to see how he performs before the start. I'm a fan of his, and I'd throw a hook at those who boo him, so they can relax," he added, dwelling on a hot topic that came up at the end of the first weekend at the Simoncelli.

The 31-year-old then compared the two sports: "There are similarities in terms of the mental part before getting into action, when it comes to concentration. I also think that there's a lot of adrenaline in both cases."
