The petition launched by Matia Feliciano Mariani on Change.org last September 16th - in the aftermath of Luca Salvadori's sudden death during the International Road Race Championship in Frohburg, Germany - has already exceeded 14,000 signatures. The request is aimed at naming a corner of the Cremona circuit after Luca, Last weekend was the first time a World Superbike round was hosted there.
"He won many titles but, more than titles, he won the hearts of many motorcycling fans with his charisma, his contagious smile, his way of speaking, and his passion for this sport," is the message that accompanies the initiative aimed at paying homage to a sportsman whose enthusiasm for two wheels has won a truly transversal audience, thanks to his contributions on YouTube.
"Luca's impact on the motorsport community has been immense. Naming a corner after him would be a small gesture with a great meaning for his fans and his family," a fan stated.
The track, which already has a section dedicated to a rider who died racing in 1971, Angelo Bergamonti, had remained unknown to most for a long time. The 32-year-old from Milan, instead, made it popular with his videos, as one of the fans who signed the petition was keen to point out. "Many of us Italians didn't even know it existed. His memory deserves to be honored in a way that will be remembered by all who race there."
