SBK: BMW and the great fear of not having Toprak at Aragon and beyond

Everyone is wondering when Toprak Razgatlioglu will return, but the answer is that no one knows. The only certainty is that, following the Magny-Cours crash in FP2, the Turk suffered a minor pneumothorax injury. What this is basically, is an accumulation of air inside the pleural space with the risk of reaching partial or total collapse of the lung. The question that keeps Toprak in check is how long it takes for this bubble to disappear.

It might take a week, 10 days or many more because it is not proportionate to the passage of days. Initially there was confidence in BMW for the recovery of their phenomenon, but as of today this air bubble remains and Toprak cannot get back on the bike.

The situation is by no means simple: "At the moment we are not able to give an answer to this question," said Marc Bongers at the end of Race 1 in Cremona, Italy, "we are continuing with the treatments. Unfortunately, the evolution of the clinical situation has not developed as we expected. We are continuously in contact with the doctors to understand what the evolution might be."

The hope is to see him again in Aragon, but no one can say at the moment, "The progress is good, but not enough to come back. I assure you that Toprak would like to race today, but we have to wait. He is obviously frustrated about this situation, because he feels ready, since the pneumothorax does not limit him physically. The problem, however, is the risks he might have in case of a second accident, which is that the lung would collapse."

Aragon therefore remains a question mark, and it would not be surprising if Magny-Cours remains the last image of Toprak on a motorcycle this season. Of course, we all hope that this will not happen.
