Pre-qualifying at Misano was an appetizer for what looks like an announced tug-of-war between Bagnaia and Martin. Pecco managed to get the better of them over the one lap, while Jorge showed he could hold his own on the pace. It was certainly a positive day, ruined only for Pramac's Spanish rider by a crash on his last time attack attempt.
"I braked at the same point as the lap before, I had the same speed, but I crashed. I think the problem was following Morbidelli, we are at the limit and even a small change in the aerodynamic load can make a difference," Martin explained, "It was a simple slide, I certainly have no more doubts now. After so many laps on the same track, sooner or later it happens and I prefer that it happened on Friday, so now I know I have to keep a little margin there."
What is the balance of this Friday?
"The feeling was very good, I improved my fastest lap compared to two weeks ago and that is already important. During testing I focused a lot on making a step forward in the time attack and I succeeded. Even though the grip was slightly less, we were faster. Tomorrow we will be even more so. Today we worked well, I did two good laps and the pace is also great: I lapped in 1'30"8 with the mediums. I would have been in Q2 already with that time."
It looks like it will be a battle between you and Bagnaia.
"We'll see tomorrow, the important thing is to be fast in qualifying and in the race. At the moment, Pecco and I are one step ahead of everyone. I didn't expect it, I thought Enea and Marc were as fast as in testing, but today the conditions were a little different."
Is it possible to steal pole position from Bagnaia tomorrow?
"In the one lap I see him a bit stronger than me, but if anyone can do it it's me or Marc."
Did you decide to use the latest evolution of the Ducati fairing?
"I tried it in testing and was a little faster. It has positive and negative aspects, but I will continue to use it."
