It can be defined as a fairly positive Friday the one experienced by Enea Bastianini in this second MotoGP round at the Misano track. Twelfth in the morning, the Rimini rider of the Lenovo Ducati team approached the top positions in the last session of the day, and finished in fourth position despite a crash in the final moments.
"I was trying," said Enea speaking of the crash, "I pushed hard because anything can happen until the last lap, but I was a little wide already by Turn 13 and so I put the bike in wrong from the start. I tried to keep it in, but it wasn't possible."
Despite having worked a lot on the feeling with the medium rear tire, Enea still seems to have some work to do.
"With the soft tire I always went well, as it was also last weekend, while with the medium tire I struggled again compared to the test. As if I suffer when there is little grip. When the track isn't perfect I can't get the tire up to temperature, especially on the left side, so it always takes me 3 or 4 laps to get the bike working well," commented the 26-year-old, who, speaking of the track conditions, added, "This morning it was quite dirty, This afternoon there was good grip, but it wasn't great at the maximum lean angle. If tomorrow the track is as fast as today but with more grip, interesting times will be made. If we can go below 1'30"? In my opinion yes."
While Bastianini was more comfortable with the soft, it was the medium tire with which Martin and Bagnaia were able to make a difference over the rest of the riders on the grid.
"I had to modify the power a little bit today since it was cooler. The medium tire didn't accept it very much, so I was always a little bit on the limit and coming out of the corners uncomfortable and all this a little bit slowed me down," explained the Romagna rider. " With lower power, it went a little bit better with the soft. I think we will bring this tomorrow as well, but to date, yes, it's the two riders who have made the most difference."
Is it possible to close the gap with the other two Ducati riders, or can Enea only aspire to fight for a 3rd place?
"In my opinion, something can be done, especially in the fourth sector, which is where I lose the most," replied the rider, "It's two left-hand corners where I lose practically two tenths. If I get that right, I don't think I'm just fighting for 3rd place."
