Alvaro Bautista has been declared fit and will regularly start FP1 at Magny-Cours on Friday morning. A lightning recovery that of the Spaniard, which came after the crash in the Superpole Race in Barcelona that cost him a fractured rib.
On the eve of the Italian round, the two-time world champion took stock of his condition.
"My real condition I will only find out on Friday morning," he said, "It is one thing to live an everyday life, another to get on a motorcycle and race. I will have a clearer picture on Friday morning, and then we will understand what my level will be."
Can you tell us how you experienced these 10 days?
"When I crashed at Magny-Cours I was immediately worried, because I was short of air and couldn't breathe. I realized that something had happened and in fact I later found out about the rib fracture. So I stopped, but the day after the race I had a clear goal in my mind, to get right back on track."
Can we call it a lightning recovery?
"Yes! I have never worked so hard in my life as in these 10 days to recover. In fact, I wanted to race in Cremona and be here. Now we will see what happens on Friday in the first free practice session."
Toprak will be absent and Bulega has a great opportunity to close the gap. Do you think you will help him?
"To be honest, we haven't talked about this with the team. Having said that, I don't think so, because I too am still in the fight for the title despite being behind Nicolò in the championship. I still remain of the opinion that Nicolo does not need me, besides, team games do not appeal to me. The thing I want to say, however, is that I am really sorry for Toprak's absence, as gaining points in this way is not fair. He is not here, however, and we have to race."
What do you think about Cremona?
"In testing we did some laps to get to know it, but now we are looking forward to the race weekend. When we are all on the track we will understand the situation because it will be quite different from testing."
