MotoGP, Marquez: "the boos? Doesn't matter: I appreciated Bagnaia's gesture on the podium"

The Team Gresini rider talks about his chances in the world championship, his second consecutive victory and the respect he has for Bagnaia and Martin: "they are the ones who set the pace in the race. The booing? At Misano Pecco was the protagonist, not me."

MotoGP: Marquez:

After the two consecutive victories at Aragon and Misano, Marc Marquez is now 53 points behind Martin and 46 behind Bagnaia, so with 7 Grands Prix to go and with 259 points still available, there are many observers who are now thinking that the Gresini Racing rider has a chance of winning the world championship.

Answering this question was Marc himself to El Larguero de la Cadena SER, as reported by AS.

"If I want to win it I have to improve some aspects and the main one is not to make mistakes in key sessions, like the one in Misano in qualifying. In the race I was lucky because four drops fell and I was able to recover because I feel good in those conditions. Of course, as long as it is possible, I will give my best in every race. Which one of the two victories was better? The one in Aragón was very exciting, but it was a foregone conclusion, while in Misano, realistically, I had no chance of winning...."

When the opportunity presented itself, however, Marquez did not let it slip away.

"I was very pleased to be able to take the lead in one lap and then get away, set the track record and maintain the speed throughout the Grand Prix. Sensations? When you get the first win you feel freer, then you gain confidence, and from there you get the momentum. It won't be possible to win every race between now and the end of the season, but one of the goals is to get on the podium."

The second Misano round, on September 22, will be a different story and Marc knows it.

"When you test so much on the same circuit the level of the competition rises: the more laps you do on a circuit, the narriower it gets! Maybe it will rain...."

The broadside of booing on the podium didn't surprise Marc, but it didn't faze him either.

"At the circuit anything can happen, you have to know how to accept it. Bagnaia's gesture (of peace, ed.)? It says a lot about him. You have to know when it's your time and at Misano Pecco was the protagonist, not me."

Marquez said he would prefer to come to the Ducati factory team with Bagnaia as champion.

"Of course, if you join a team whose rider is the champion, it means you are doing a good job. He knows the bike better than I do, it's him and Martin who dictate the pace in the Grands Prix, but if you don't challenge yourself you'll never know where you can arrive."
