Eighth at the end of Monday's test at the Misano circuit, Marco Bezzecchi appeared rather satisfied. The innovations brought to the track gave the answers he had hoped-for, and the VR46 Racing rider admitted that he finally feels confident looking forward to the upcoming races.
"It was a good day in which I had fun," he said. "We worked on different set-ups that, during the season, is never easy to do, and also on some solutions regarding the electronics. As always, some things didn't work. Others, however, went well, especially with regard to the front. So I hope we'll need them for the rest of the championship. Since it's the last test available, it was important to find something good to grow and aim for the podium."
Like his colleagues, the rider from Rimini was also called upon to judge the new front tire. "It looks interesting to me. In half an hour, I could do just eight laps, but I noticed that it's quite different. It gave me good sensations when braking with the bike straight, but the frame seems softer, so doing the lean angle with a lot of braking becomes more difficult. It's like the bike is stiffer, and when you stop braking, it gives the impression of falling into the corner. We'll try it again but, overall, I'd say it's valid. Will it make it easier for those in the slipstream? I don't think so, because that depends on pressure and temperature. In any case, until you're in the group, you won't know."
Lately, the 25-year-old rider has been more in tune with his Desmosedici. "I'd like my apprenticeship to be over but, unfortunately, every circuit we encounter this year is like a new beginning. On some tracks, I struggled more, on others less, but it was never easy. Here, at the Simoncelli, I had a decent weekend, and I took small steps forward during the test. Unfortunately, on new tires, I have problems, and that's why I often fall in the sprint. I don't have the explosiveness of 2023 anymore. I can't be competitive. and I wear out the front tire a lot, so it's good to do well on Sunday, but I need to improve on Saturday. I set the third fastest time here in qualifying? It's because I took so many risks," he then explained his recent performance.
Finally, about the radio he said: "I tried it during the beginning of the development of the technology. Since you can't wear a headset, you have to use a device that works with vibrations. Consequently, if it works with the bike off, when it turns on, you can't hear anything. Maybe, with Espargaro, they found a new key, and allowinf time to make the necessary improvements is right. Will the communication be two-way? I hope they never hear me, because they'll have to add 'beeps' all the time. Overall, I like the idea, but getting the message on the bike is complicated since you have a lot to do. It would still be wrong to say no at the outset."
