Yesterday the nightmare, today the dream. Nicolò Bulega takes home a picture-perfect Sunday, thanks to a double victory between the Superpole Race and Race 2 that earned him 37 points. Now the gap from Toprak in the Championship is down to 55.
Obviously, the Turkish rider is still there, up in front, with a big lead, but the Aruba rider enjoyed what he did this weekend on French soil.
"I have to thank the mobile clinic for the great support they showed me," he said. "Yesterday, I took a hard blow with that fall, especially my neck and shoulder, but the most important thing was that I could race today.
What kind of weekend did you have, Nicolò? Everything that could've happened here at Magny-Cours did ...
"It was a really difficult weekend but, inside, I knew I had the speed I needed. I don't have much experience when conditions change quickly, and yesterday was really difficult because of that totally unexpected fall. Saturday night, I was thinking about whether I 'd be able to race or not. But what matters is to have gotten two important results today."
Today you were infallible ...
"It's a surprise for me too. Last night, I was in bed staring at the ceiling of the RV. In the warm-up, I had only done one lap, just to get the feeling. Afterwards, I felt I had confidence and, in the Superpole Race, we managed to get the max."
Nicolò, what's this one-two worth?
"After Australia, I finally got back to winning, aware that I had an advantage, given Toprak's absence. Obviously, he's still far ahead in the championship, but what counts is having sealed this Sunday. Now we go to Cremona on a track where we struggled in testing and, as a result, we'll try to put those difficulties behind us."
In the championship, you're now 55 points behind.
"Yesterday, I was sad and pissed off because I was in a lot of pain and throwing away so many points. Now, we'v gained some points on Toprak, but we all know his potential."
