Danilo Petrucci was working with experience and, in the end, he's back on the podium again. A satisfying third place for the Barni rider, which he obtained with great lucidity and intelligence. Obviously, it took little to make a mistake in Race 1, where there were only 12 riders at the finish line.
Once again, Petrux confirmed himself, and his Panigale shines in third place.
"It was a difficult, survival race," he began. "No one knew which tire to use. Seventy percent were thinking slicks, but no one would've imagined all this water on the track. The fact is that I came in too late to change the tire. I should maybe have anticipated, but I lack experience with these tires, since this is my second time in wet conditions. That said, I'm very happy with this podium, since I also fell during qualifying this morning."
We saw many falls today.
"I think Magny-Cours is used a lot by cars, and all that makes the asphalt particularly slippery. In fact, it felt like we were on ice this morning, and you feel the poor grip, especially when opening the throttle."
Many were thinking of a Silverstone-type race with the MotoGP.
"At Silverstone, I was really confident, while I only thought about managing and defending my position here. In fact, I was only thinking about finishing the race without taking risks."
Before the race, did you think it might be the right day?
"This morning, I started out nice and motivated then, when I entered the track, it was panic. My father always said one thing: 'Whoever is still standing when it's wet, wins races.' I didn't win, but I'm still very happy."
