Enea Bastianini made things difficult for himself in qualifying, once again. The eighth box on the grid always means an uphill race, and that's what happened in the Sprint at Misano. The Beast from Rimini got off to a good start and managed to catch up with Morbidelli at the end, even attempting an overtake (a bit too optimistic) for the podium.
"I'm not angry, but it would've obviously been nice to be on the podium today too," Enea commented with a smile. "Maybe I was a little too ambitious, because I wanted to attack Franco right away, without having studied him, and then go and catch Pecco as well. If I could go back, I'd try that overtake in another corner."
You can't travel into the past, but you can think about the future and, for tomorrow's race, Bastianini would like to play his best card: the soft rear tire.
"We have to assess it better. The engineers will help me make the right decision," he didn't want to take a position. "The fact of the matter is that I wear it out less than the others, and I think I can use it. We'll see. If the temperatures drop, it could become more problematic, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'm more confident with the soft."
Another crux will be the start.
"As always, whoever is in front struggles less," the native from Rimini said. "Starting out well will be important. And keeping calm. For me, of course, it's going to be difficult to be in that position, but never say never. We saw that today with Binder. He rides very strangely. I lost a lot of time with him and even risked rear-ending him. I struggled when I was behind him but, once I passed him, I was able to go better."
Today also renewed the challenge in the standings with Marquez. Now they're tied on points. "We know Marc is fast. It's going to be a good fight," Enea promised.
