Danilo Petrucci ended Friday's combined session at Magny-Coursin in sixth position. If, on the one hand, the Barni rider is satisfied with his performance and his sensations, on the other, he definitely had a big fright bacause of what happened to Toprak in the FP2.
The Turkish rider fell during the FP2, and it almost came close to being a tragedy.
"First of all, I hope Toprak is okay," Petrux said. "The spot where he fell is really dangerous, and we'll talk about it in Safety Commission. That section is like the Rivazza in Imola, and he took the wall. We're talking about a corner that you ride in fifth gear, and I think he flew over 200km/h. Let's say there are some things to talk about here at Magny-Cours, but what matters is Toprak's health. In fact, I hope to see him on the track soon."
What did you think, on the spot, when you saw him go down?
"That crash is one of those that makes you stop riding. All he had to do was finish a little further, and it would've been a day to forget for all of us. Just talking about it gives me the chills, and it reminded me of that day in August in Austria when Morbidelli's bike went through Rossi and Viñales. On that day, if I had a choice, I would've said: 'to hell with you and the bikes'."
Danilo, what instead was the outcome of your Friday?
"All in all, it was a positive day," he commented. "We finally got back to racing in the cool weather and, for a bear like me, it's better," he said, smiling. "We have some work to do, knowing that Toprak has a different pace than the rest of us. Incidentally, all the BMWs here are competitive, then there are us Ducati riders. I think there will be ten of them fighting for the podium. But I'm happy because we can fight for the first three places."
