Currently, the leader of Moto 3, with an impressive 75 points lead over Veijer (no one like him in this 2024 if you look at the rankings of all MotoGP classes), with seven victories in twelve GPs so far since the beginning of the season, David Alonso will be racing in the Moto2 next year. After several rumors that had been leading in this direction for some time, today came the official confirmation.
For the eighth consecutive championship, if you count the shared path starting from the Spanish national series, the Colombian will defend the colors of the Aspar team in the top class.
"It's the perfect time to make the jump to the next category. This year, I ha've shown my strength, so the next step must be to get there with the title in my pocket. I'm proud to continue with CFMoto, which is more than a team for me, it's my second family. They trusted me at the end of 2017 when I was 11 years old and, together, we've achieved everything. I want to continue to grow with them and achieve even more success," the 18-year-old admitted.
"David is proof of the work we're doing with young riders and it's a joy to be able to announce that he'll be with us in the Moto 2. He's grown with us and now has a very high level. We hope to end the year with the World Championship so we can make the transition as champions," the comment of Aspar boss Martinez.
Third in 2023 at his debut, Alonso had won in four events, standing on the podium eight times.
