MotoGP, Martín: "I don't think Marquez and Bastianini are out of the fight."

"Today the top four in the standings are objectively one step ahead of everyone else on the track. The Red Bull Ring is a great track for me, but it will also be a great track for everyone else riding the Ducati."

MotoGP: Martín:

Jorge Martìn arrives at the Red Bull Ring at a perfect moment. He offered a very solid performance at Silverstone, he made no mistakes and in Austria he will find one of his favorite tracks. In short, he has an honest chance to try to stretch his championship lead over Pecco Bagnaia, who trails him by three points. At the same time, the Spaniard knows he has virtually zero margin for error, because in such a drawn-out world championship a zero at the wrong time can become a huge problem.

In the meantime, Martìn wants to enjoy this second part of the season in which he continues to dream of bringing the number one on the dowry cap to the Aprilia on which he will race from next season, a scenario that at the moment seems totally plausible.

"Certainly this is a great track for us, but it will be great for all the Ducati riders," Martìn explained, " The goal clearly will be to maintain the lead. The really important thing at Silverstone was not to regain the lead in the standings, but rather to have rebuilt the right confidence. Last year here in Austria it didn't go so well, even though I was fast I didn't do great. So I hope we can improve and maybe be stronger than in 2023 here."

Do you think that besides Pecco, Marquez and Bastianini are really two rivals for the title?
"Let's see over the course of the season. I would say that today the four riders who are in front in the world championship are all one step ahead of everyone else. Everything is still very open, we are halfway there, and I think there is still some chance for others besides me and Pecco to win this title as well."

Today when you are on the track do you also think about the ranking or do you always take the same risks?
"That's an interesting question. I try to give 100 percent all the time, I know that getting on the podium or in any case scoring points is always very important. But honestly I also look at the championship, and when you're in this situation, you start thinking that maybe you can think about attacking someone to get a few more points, but you also know that you risk losing all the points. It depends on the weekend and the individual situations. Certainly if when I arrive on Sunday in the race I know that to win I have to take a few more risks, I am willing to do that. In other situations where I understand that I don't have much of a chance, I try to stay calmer."

If you were not to win the title, who would you like to see champion?
"It's hard to answer that. If I really don't have to win it, I'd like Aleix Espargarò to win it!"

Do you consider yourself a better rider today than in the past?
"I think 2023 was the best, I was consistent. Before I used to fall a lot and sometimes I was not that fast. I worked a lot on my physique but also on my mentality. I remember the first time I tried a MotoGP I was not so impressed by the power of the engine, which I knew was very high, but rather by the braking. Braking hard is an incredible experience on a MotoGP bike. I even wrecked a bike on that my first day of testing!"
