SBK, Iannone: "I'm not going to make do, I'd rather stay at home and I'm not afraid to do so."

"I'm coming from the couch and I'm not afraid to choose even though I haven't made a decision at the moment. Eventually I am also willing to marry a project that is successful in a year or more. On the track I would like to be just a rider, but I often have to do more than that."

SBK: Iannone:

A fourth place full of heart and determination. Andrea Iannone and Go Eleven once again managed to take an important step forward, finishing just off the podium on Portimao Sunday and celebrating the best independent award.

The final result certainly rewards the efforts of the rider from Vasto, who once again was able to leave behind the difficulties of a weekend that was certainly not easy. Andrea talked about the weekend and at the same time about what the market will be, since his name has been put forward as a candidate for Yamaha.

"I am happy with the progression of the weekend," he began, "it is not trivial to get a result like this because it is difficult to take the right reference data here in Portimao. Just to give an example, the track in Most I learned in one day while here it's different. Without having the references it becomes even more difficult to make progress. I am happy, however, because the podium could have been within reach with Bautista's crash, but we still need to learn a few things. In the final part with less gas the Ducati was getting nervous, I was struggling, but what counts is the progression shown this weekend. Let's see if we can take a step between now and the end of the season: we certainly need to build a plan to get to fight with the best."

Would an extra year on this bike help?
"It's a very technical issue. I'm putting a lot of my own into it this year, and maybe I'm spending a lot of time doing things I'm not asked to do as a rider. I would like to just be a rider, so let's see what it will be and how things will work out. Certainly an extra year is always better, because it means having more experience. Of course it is important to understand where there are shortcomings and make sure everyone is aware of them. I could also say that I am okay with myself when I give 100 percent on the track, however, I always aim to give that extra something to get the best."

What can you tell us about your future
"At the moment there is nothing clear. It's an incandescent and intense moment, I'm evaluating things and I don't have any ideas in fact I don't want to stress myself. For sure it will be important to understand the direction of the regulation knowing that I arrived this year and in some cases break the plans that the manufacturers have made, since not everyone expected this competitiveness of mine. So it is not easy to fit in and build the best situation. I come from the couch and to continue racing this has to make sense, since my goal is to fight for a World Championship. Should the possibility not be there it would become complex, because I am not satisfied with fourth position or a best independent. I am a rider who has raced to fight with the big guys, who has always trained and dreams big. Today, at 35 years of age, I am not going to make do. I'd rather stay at home, because if I'm not racing to win, what am I racing to do?"

Would you be willing to wait for a project to win in a year or two.
"Absolutely! I'm not afraid to stay home or take different steps. I'm happy to put certain things together and see how important they are. We'll see, I think by Magny-Cours we'll know more."
