Alvaro Bautista tried to put an end to that fast of victories that has persisted since the Assen Superpole Race. Race 2 in Portimao seemed to be the right opportunity. But, in the last 6 laps, the Spanish rider had managed to close the gap with Toprak Razgatlioglu.
In fact, the two-time world champion was attached to the Turk's BMW. But, with five laps to go, he ended up falling at Turn 5. Apparently, the front closed on him, which cost the Aruba rider dearly, falling afer the best part.
Nevertheless, Alvaro was able to start again, finishing in 19th position.
