Toprak Razgatlioglu was a bit disappointed at the end of Friday's free practice at Portimao. The World Championship leader is third in the combined, held back on two occasions by his BMW. In the morning he had to deal with a technical problem, which then happened again in the final FP2.
Some doubt remains, but at the same time the Turk wants to stay calm, confident in the momentum shown from Assen so far.
"Unfortunately I had to deal with as many as two technical problems today," he began, "it seems that both were similar. We still have to understand what happened, because the situation is not completely clear. This morning with the used tire everything was okay. Then with the new tire I felt strange sensations, especially at Turn 10. In fact, I slowly returned to the pit."
Toprak, regarding the problems, so you have no answers?
"At the moment we don't really know, the guys are working. All in all, the feelings are not bad, but the gaps are small. Here we are all close."
The subject of tires: what are the feelings?
"With the used tires I feel much better than with the new ones. I honestly don't know what the reason is. Maybe tomorrow we can take a step forward to improve and be faster. In the end I think the new SC0 brought by Pirelli was appreciated by everyone. The opposite was the case with the standard SC0, as the BMW was not accelerating and I had no grip, mainly because of the high temperatures. Then there was the yellow flag to complicate things. Let's just say that I just needed more time on the track."
Are you worried about tomorrow?
"Not so much, I hope the problems will be solved and everything will be okay."
