MotoGP, Mugello Circuit tops the list of the world's most sustainable circuits

Biodiversity is also the flagship of the Tuscan circuit. The Mugello circuit is a green lung of undoubted significance since it has 900,000 square meters of green areas and 300,000 square meters of wooded areas, in which 254 trees were planted in the 2020-2021 period.

MotoGP: Mugello Circuit tops the list of the world's most sustainable circuits

For the second year in a row, the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, located a few kilometers north of Florence, Italy, has been named the world's most sustainable circuit according to the British Enovation Consulting study for 2024.

Mugello stood on the highest step of the podium ahead of the Barcelona circuit in Spain and Silverstone in England. The Tuscan facility ranked first out of 96 permanent circuits selected around the world and analyzed based on seven key factors: certifications, accreditations, awards, environmental performance, social performance, economic impact, and approach and commitment to sustainability. In the world rankings, the positions of Mugello, first, and Barcelona, second, remained unchanged from 2023, while the Silverstone circuit enters the top 3 for the first time.

According to Enovation Consulting, the fourth edition of the "Sustainable Circuits Index" clearly shows the progress made by facilities and the motorsports industry in general on sustainability. In this edition, 40 circuits took points for waste management and circularity of processes compared to 34 last year. As many as 44 stood out for energy efficiency and renewable energy supply.

Sustainability means Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello. It is no coincidence that the Ferrari facility was the first in the world to obtain the prestigious "Achievement of Excellence" award, the highest level of environmental sustainability certification issued by the FIA (International Automobile Federation), as well as being the first to achieve ISO 20121 in 2020 and the only circuit in the world with an integrated certification system.

Among the many firsts, it is also the first MotoGP circuit to host hives for pollinating bees, which were inaugurated at the Italian Grand Prix last May 31, June 1-2.

Biodiversity is also the pride of the Tuscan circuit. The Mugello circuit is a green lung of undoubted significance since it has 900,000 square meters of green areas and 300,000 square meters of wooded areas, in which 254 trees were planted during the period 2020-2021. As a result of the two poplars (White and Italic), an assimilation of about 103,886 kilograms of CO2 (103.886 tCO2) is estimated. The plant, in addition to caring for and protecting the flora present, has also activated several important projects aimed at equally protecting its fauna. To further protect the environment and promote biodiversity, nests for migratory birds and feeders for deer have also been set up. The circuit area is particularly suitable for the settlement of various species of animals such as deer, fallow deer, foxes, wild boars and porcupines.
A track, therefore, that in addition to being among the most beautiful in the world, is also an example of what it means to be on the cutting edge of sustainability.
