There's going to be one more rider on the Moto3 grid in the Austrian GP. In fact, local idol Jakob Rosenthaler will be making his debut in the cadet class of the MotoGP, joining Collin Veijer and Tatsuki Suzuki in the ranks of the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP team at the Red Bull Ring over the weekend of August 16th-18th.
It's a dream come true for the 18-year-old from Linz who, a few weeks after taking part in his home round, will be back in action in Misano for a second wild card with the German team, in which he's a JuniorGP rider.
"I'm looking forward to participating in my first Grand Prix, which will be held at my home race at the Red Bull Ring," the Austrian rider commented enthusiastically. "The wildcard for Spielberg was submitted some time ago. Since then, I've always hoped it would go through. And now that it's been confirmed, I'm looking forward to my first Grand Prix. I'm very happy because my goal has always been to make it to the Moto3 World Championship, and my first race should be an important step toward that goal, because I'll be able to get a taste of it without any pressure and prove what I can do."
It's a great opportunity for Rosenthaler, who's aiming to give his all in front of his home crowd to prove that he deserves a permanent place in the World Championship, after racing for three seasons in the JuniorGP. Besides to competing in the Red Bull Rookies Cup between 2021 and 2023, the 18-year-old is, in fact, committed to the "Mundialito" since 2022 where he currently occupies 14th place in the championship with 33 points and a 4th place as his best result of the season.
"I'll prepare as best as I can for Spielberg and give it my all to meet expectations. In any case, I want to enjoy the race and have fun. I'll also try to approach the weekend with as little pressure as possible," Jakob continued. "I'll be kind of nervous in front of the full grandstands at the home Grand Prix, but I want to stay away from it as much as possible to have a flawless weekend with good results. I'd like to thank team management and especially Jürgen Lingg, Stefan Keckeisen, Wolfgang Kuhn, and Dirk Reissmann for giving me the opportunity to experience the Grand Prix atmosphere next weekend!"
