Alvaro Bautista's future has held the Superbike market in check for months. According to what we anticipated to you last Thursday, the Spaniard has decided to continue racing with Ducati next year and as a result things are in the home stretch on the negotiation front.
Confirming this was, among others, Simone Battistella, who spoke to Sky TV's microphones on Friday at the Silverstone round. In fact, the rider's manager declared that the deal is in the final stages, as well as being ready to put pen to paper.
The fact remains that until last weekend there was, and perhaps still is to this day, a problem to be solved. What is it about? Simple: the length of the contract. In fact, Bautista has asked for a two-year renewal, that is, until 2026 with the aim of testing the new Ducati V4, which only in two years will be able to race in the World Championship.
On this point, therefore, an understanding needs to be found with the world champion, who is more determined than ever to continue racing for two more seasons. This is no small matter if we consider that it also closely concerns Ducati. The reason is very simple: until last season, the Superbike riders' contracts were the responsibility of Aruba, in the person of Stefano Cecconi, i.e., the team owner.
As a result of the new agreement between Aruba and Ducati, starting next season the Borgo Panigale manufacturer will help support the hiring of the riders, thus offering its contribution from an economic point of view to Stefano Cecconi.
This is the current situation: so we will see if by Portimao the Bautista deal will be closed or it will be necessary to wait for Magny-Cours in early September.
