MotoGP, Di Giannantonio: "The slipstreaming in qualifying was unprofessional"

"Whoever comes to the MotoGP should know how to set a fast lap without outside help. The Superpole? Nice idea, but different conditions make it impractical. Okay, instead, for stopping the time in case of a yellow flag."

MotoGP: Di Giannantonio:

He thought he would've been able to fight for a more important placing, since he felt he was comfortable riding his Ducati. But, instead, Fabio Di Giannantonio crossed the finish line of the Sprint Race at the Silverstone circuit in 9th place, knowing that he's going to have another tough task tomorrow when he'll have to climb back up from the fourth row.

"It's too bad, because I had the conditions to do better, being in the small group and fighting for fourth position," the VR46 rider said, with regret, since he was also slowed down by a Long Lap Penalty. "I don't know where I got the first track limit, but I noticed the second one right away. To overtake Alex Marquez at turn sixteen, I came out too fast from fifteen and went onto the green. It was my mistake. l'll try to make a good comeback. Will starting tenth be a handicap? If you guess the start, it isn't a problem. You then overtake here. What's important is staying focused, not make mistakes, and slip into the right group," he stated with determination.

With equal firmness and conviction, the class-of-98 rider shot down what happened in qualifying. "In my opinion, when you get to the MotoGP, you have to know how  to do things on your own, without having to slow down to get behind someone. Everyone has the potential to make it. I don't think it's a very professional attitude. Plus, it's ugly to see and dangerous. I also was at risk of crashing into someone in the last laps today. The Superpole? It would be great, but then it would be unequal because of the conditions," he assessed, before commenting on the opportunities also found in the Moto 3. "Getting a slipstream is equivalent to gaining even a second. In any case, it's not a good spectacle, in general. You should get on the track and hit the gas."

Finally, on the hypothesis of interrupting the time remaining in qualifying in case of a yellow flag, the rider from Rome said, "I had never thought about it, but it seems interesting. It could help to have more chances for a time attack."
