Morbidelli: "In VR46 with a GP24? In the MotoGP, I only won with old bikes."

"We're working for this to come true. Racing for them would be a chance to repay them with good results after all they've done for me."

MotoGP: Morbidelli:

Today, Davide Tardozzi was the maker of an unintentional spoiler, revealing that Di Giannantonio and Morbidelli will be racing for VR46 next year: the former with an official bike and the latter with a GP24. When they pointed this out to Franco, he smiled: "We're working to make what Davide said actually happen," he diplomatically replied.

Logically, he can't go out on a limb, but one can speculate, like thinking about the fact that he would have an outdated bike.

"I became vice world champion with an old bike, and I won my only races in the MotoGP with an old bike," he recalled, referring to 2020 with Yamaha Petronas. "I hope that, if what was said really happens, I'll have that kind of performance."

Uccio Salucci has always said that having Morbidelli would represent the closing of a circle, since he was one of the first riders in Valentino's Academy.

"It would be a great story, the closing of a circle, and a chance to give something back to the whole VR46 family through some good results. It would be a nice way to pay them back, but it's still too early to talk about. When will that happen? I don't know. I'm now focused on this weekend," he stated.

So all they had left was to talk about Friday at Silverstone, where he missed directly entering the Q2 by a handful of hundredths.

"What did I miss? Very little, really,"  the Pramac rider explained. "I felt good on the flying lap, but then I realized I wasn't fast enough. I still lack explosiveness and, today, even more than usual. I'm not bad on the pace, but I have to improve there too because, from morning to afternoon, the other riders progressed more than I did."
