MotoGP, Martin: "Having gotten the 1st time with Marquez in my slipstream gives me even more confidence."

"Today I dispelled any doubts I might have had after I fell at the Sachsenring. Daniele Romagnoli and 'Malaguita' will be coming with me to Aprilia. They can help me in adapting."

MotoGP: Martin:

First in the morning and first in the afternoon, Jorge Martin couldn't have started the second part of the season any better. He had gone on vacation after his fall in the German GP, which cost him the top spot in the standings. But, at Silverstone, he regained his shine.

"It went well. It gives me a lot of confidence to start like this. If I was left with any doubts after the Sachsenring, they disappeared today. If I have to be honest, I struggled to recover because I was fine on vacation," Pramac's Spanish rider said jokingly. "But I arrived here at Silverstone in top form. It's a track I like, and I was fast. I'm comfortable, I haven't touched the bike, and that allows me to gain more confidence. I thought of doing a lot of testing but, in the end, I preferred not to change anything, I also had some new things to try."

Actually, the tumble at the Sachsenring had left him with some doubt.

"We thought there was a part that maybe had caused the fall, because I was the only Ducati rider using it. So I went back to the standard configuration a little bit: I had a doubt that I could've been slower. Instead, I felt better. I feel really comfortable on the pace. I lapped 1'58" with a fifteen-lap tire, and I think it's a great time. I really like the grip my bike has. The point where I suffer the most is corner entry, but braking nd tractio are great."

Not even Marquez, who tried hard to find his slipstream, bothered him.

"Having a rider behind you is nothing I'm not used to," Jorge explained. "It's clear that I'd prefer to be alone, but I can't decide if someone is following me or not. I pushed and still got a first place, so it's something that gives me even more confidence."

He wasn't just another rider, though. Marc stole his place on the official Ducati team.

"I see it now in this perspective, but I didn't think about it at the time. You never want to give the wheel to a fast rider because he can remain in front of you and, in some cases, take you out of the Q2, but you can't do anything about it."

Speaking of the future, Martin confirmed that crew chief Daniele Romagnoli and mechanic David Galacho, known as Malaguita, will follow him to Aprilia.

"Malaguita is the first person I thought of, because I feel very good with him, and we've been together for four years. I think he'll help me a lot to adapt to the new team. The same goes for Romagnoli. We've won a lot together and fought for the title. I needed a person who knew either me or the bike well, and I think Daniele is the right one." This was the reason for his choice.
