After deep reflection, Álex Rins has decided to withdraw from the Silverstone Grand Prix due to the hand and foot injury he suffered at Assen. After a few weeks of rest, the Spanish rider will undergo another checkup to assess whether he can return in Austria in mid-August.
With Rins' withdrawal from the British GP, there is a vacancy in the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP garage. For logistical reasons, Remy Gardner will move from the Test Team garage to the factory team garage for the remainder of the race weekend. However, Gardner will continue to ride for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team.
"First of all, I would like to express my sympathy to Álex ," said team manager Maio Meregalli, " Riders are always disappointed when they cannot race, but perhaps this is even more frustrating for Álex because the British GP is a very special event. It is important for Monster Energy, which sponsors this race, and also for Dorna, which is organizing the 75th anniversary celebrations of MotoGP. In addition, Álex really likes Silverstone and has had very good results here, so it is definitely a disappointment. However, his health and well-being must take priority. Therefore, we decided that it was not worthwhile for him to continue the race weekend at the British GP and we hope to have him back in Austria in better condition. Starting tomorrow, Remy will be in the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP pit box. However, Remy will continue to ride for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team for the rest of the British GP weekend."
Alex Rins explained, "After evaluating my health condition with my doctors, we came to the conclusion that the most responsible thing for me is to skip the remaining part of the British GP. As you can imagine, I feel sorry for the team and for myself. Every single lap we have done this season has been helpful in developing the bike and closing the gap with the other manufacturers. But the pain I am experiencing and the risk of a more serious injury, along with the doctor's advice, make me make this decision. I hope to be back on track and working again very soon.Thank you all for your support."
