MotoGP, Bastianini: "The engine problem in free practice didn't penalize me"

"But maybe I did a few laps less than the others. Finding the MotoGP as I left it is positive. We worked well. But not trying the hard on the front was maybe a mistake. I'll make up for it tomorrow. Rivals? the fast guys are the same as always. We knew that the Aprilia here has a lot of traction and can be competitive."

MotoGP: Bastianini:

The Championship is starting again with Silverstone, and Enea Bastianini didn't let himself be caught unprepared. Fourth in the standings with 155 points, the Italian Ducati rider wasn't influenced by an engine problem during Friday's free practice and ended his first day with a 4th time, just over two tenths from Martin.

Did you figure out something at the end of first round or did you get the right sensastions as you rode around the track?
"I knew I had lost some time and needed to speed things up," Enea began. "So we were fast. Actually, we had already been working well since the morning, but today we took an extra step forward. Surely, the two fast laps could've been better, but we found some traffic. Overall, though, I'm satisfied with this start to the weekend. To be back on the MotoGP after the break and immediately find it as I left it is a positive thing."

You also had a glitch with your GP24 engine today. One engine down? Did it affect you for the free practice session?
"Now let's see what happened. It's clear that, for that reason, I did a few laps less than the others, but I don't really feel I was penalized by that problem . Maybe I made a mistake by not trying the hard compound on the front during the flying lap, because I saw that those who had it were suffering less, while I was already suffering with the second tire. Tomorrow, if the temperatures allow it, I think trying that option as well is going to be important."

Who do you see among the rivals to beat here at the Silverstone circuit?
"The fast ones are always the same. We know that the Aprilia is very strong on the pace here too and has a lot of traction. So Aleix, Maverick and also Raul Fernandez did well, but I have to look at the data better."

Where do you stand?
"I can't say for sure, but I'm up ahead, so I'm satisfied."
