After a first part of the season probably above expectations that sees him occupy eighth place in the overall standings with 92 points, Fabio di Giannatonio faces the last run-up with optimism and enthusiasm starting from the British GP that awaits him this weekend.
Speaking about his summer, the Roman rider confided, "It was not particularly relaxing since we had two big events in Indonesia and Misano, plus I had to optimize my time by training in the gym. All in all, though, I recharged my batteries also thanks to the warmth of the people. The Silverstone track is one of my favorites, we did an event here in June with the Panigale and it was good. I hope to be fast and do well."
Returning instead to last week's World Ducati Week, the VR46 rider confided, "It was my second time, but it was different. Thanks to my moment of form there were a lot of fans in front of my box. If I had to say how special it was I would answer 11. Also great was the organization and the new Panigale is fantastic. I talked to the sales manager and told him I want it! How do you approach the Race of Champions? As a rider when you put your visor down you want to race, but then you think about the championship which is important. I just tried to put on a show."
Instead, taking stock of the season so far, he said, "I think we will do better in the second half. The GP23 lacks something compared to the GP24, so together with the engineers we will have to find something to improve."
In the UK, the bikes will have a special livery. "It should be like that often, maybe involving the fans. Ours will be on Rossi's history. I will also wear an ad hoc helmet." Finally a comment about Marquez's iincident at WDW. "I saw it, however, I will not say anything. It was just a crash."
Twelfth with 53 points his pit neighbor Marco Bezzecchi is definitely eager to get back into action to redeem himself from the difficulties encountered in many of the previous races.
"For me all the tracks are good and every race is important, so I'm happy to be here. It's better than at home. What is the goal, to go faster. As a layout it is different than Germany. I personally prefer this one because it is better suited to our bike," he commented before confiding that he was unaware of India's return to the calendar. "I didn't know, but I'm happy. It's a nice circuit and so is the atmosphere."
Finally on the promotion of Simon Crafar to race director, he declared, "He is a good guy and I think he will do a very good job, which will be quite hard, especially at the beginning. I'm convinced he will make the right decisions. Freddie Spencer had raced, but in the past, he has instead always been in contact with the paddock." And on the Marquez - Bulega episode in Misano there was the very classic "no comment."
