The summer break is over, and the 10th Grand Prix of 2024 will be held this weekend at Silverstone. A historic event that will also celebrate 75 years of the MotoGP. Aleix Espargaró had to skip the Sachsenring GP after he fractured his right hand during the Sprint at Assen. But he'll be returning to a track that evokes wonderful memories for him: last year's victory in the long race after a comeback from 12th position, and the first podium for Aprilia in the 2021 MotoGP.
Maverick Viñales is looking for redemption after a complicated Sachsenring GP. The Spanish rider boasts great numbers at Silverstone, where he's won twice: in the 2012 Moto3 and in the 2016 MotoGP. With Aprilia, he scored two podiums: 3rd in the Sprint last year and second in the race in 2022.
"I really like this track, not only because of last year's win but because it was one of the most historic moments since I arrived in Aprilia with our first podium in 2021," Aleix recalls. "Silverstone suits me and also the RS-GP very well. I'll try to replicate the result of 2023. Last year, the Aprilias were consistently up in front. We hope to do well again this year. In Noale, they worked during the summer break to improve the bikes."
Vinales is also ready to jump back into the fray: "I've always felt competitive at Silverstone. Racing here, on a track full of history, is always nice. I'm psyched after the summer break. I've been training, and I'm ready to tackle this second part of the season in the best way possible. We'll try to take full advantage of the bikes' potential. Raúl will ride the RS-GP24 for the first time in the race. Having four 2024 bikes on the track is going to be great and very useful for collecting as much data as as we can."
