Fabio Di Giannantonio is in his second WDW as a Ducati rider. He experienced his first as a Gresini Racing rider, and he probably never imagined he'd be returning to Misano as a VR46 rider. But life often holds wonderful surprises, and Diggia has amply demonstrated that he deserves this chance. We met him in the paddock at Misano and exchanged a few words with him.
At your first WDW, you weren't sure you'd be doing a second one. Now it looks like you might even do a third or fourth.
"The WDW is a crazy weekend," Fabio Di Giannantonio began. "It's full of fans who rush to meet us. It's not always easy to have this kind of contact with the fans. It's a crazy experience. Two years ago, it was incredible but, this year, it's even better. So many fans who come to the pits to say hello."
With VR46, you've created a great bond.
"They welcomed me in an incredible way. I expected I'd fit in, because I've always said I respected them as a team and as a structure, so I had very good expectations but, I have to say, they're really cool. I like to say that. We have fun, and they made me rediscover the fun of racing. It's a great atmosphere."
Now you're looking forward to the Race of Champions. You have your race version of the new Panigale. They're flying off the shelves.
"The new bike is crazy, beautiful. Then, with our colors, it's even more impressive. The race is supposed to be a show, but it's really the most heartfelt race of the year. Everyone wants to win. It's like kart racing with friends. It's going to be a great show, it's going to be cool, we're going to try the new bike, and I think people are going to have fun."
You've always been fond of the Ducati world. The photo with Bayliss on the 1098, the #21, to then move onto 49.
"To already have the opportunity to do this with Ducati, to grow together, to win together. It's a dream I started with my dad in the garage and his 748 and, now, I'm racing in the MotoGP. It's incredible."
