For the second weekend in a row, Danilo Petrucci proved that he has the right sort of skin for this game. In spite of a condition that is still far from optimal, the Ducati rider was able to pull out his claws by staging a fine comeback to sixth place.
"Starting ninth doesn't help, however, at least I fought - he acknowledged - I tried to stay with Bautista, but from the middle of the race I started to suffer a lot with my back and I was forced to adapt; when I passed Locatelli the Spaniard ran away a bit."
The after-effects of the accident he had in the spring continue to be felt. "I hold on because instead of using my right arm, I use the left side of my back to stay balanced, however, for example on this track there are so many changes of direction and it was really complicated. Having said that, we are always close to the leaders, which is also why it would have been nice to see what would have happened starting from the second row, like this morning when there was a big tussle. In the same way I would have liked to be in better shape here as I was in Misano, however I am happy with the work we are doing, I feel comfortable in the saddle and then fighting at the front is fun. With Alvaro we had a good duel, with several overtakes, too bad instead that I was not able to follow Bulega closely. Unfortunately, I lacked continuity."
Taking stock of the three days in England, the Terni rider confided, "It was a bitter sweet weekend, in that although I managed to limit the damage, there remains the regret for a podium within reach that did not come. For the rest, I just have to get back in shape and hope that the weekend has not weighed too heavily on my shoulder and that I have regained some strength."
Also of concern to him is the yellow flag regulation. "I hope a solution will be found because my qualifying was marred by Lowes' crash," he remarked before going back with his memory to 2023 and his first top 3 in SBK at the British track.
"In what have I improved since then? I' ve made progress with the set-up and in the way of working with the team considering that now we know each other better and the guys are able to interpret my indications better, however today I made the fastest lap on the final despite the fact that after the first four laps I was already struggling and with the last ten really complex, while I should try to be more incisive at the start with new rubber. For now, however, I can't and it's a weakness of mine since I have always had no traction," he explained.
