This was a picture-perfect Sunday at the Sachsenring for the Gresini team because both Marquez brothers got on the podium at the German GP, with second step Marc on the second step and Alex on the lower one. A day that will remain forever etched in the minds of everyone on the team led by Nadia Padovani.
Michele Masini was one of many who were celebrating. In fact, the team manager from Romagna exalted what Magic Marc was able to do, as the star of a super feat after his bad accident on Friday, without forgetting that he hadn't even entered the Q2 because of Bradl.
"I think we did something exceptional, bringing two riders to the podium," Masini said. "Everything happen to Marc this weekend. First, he had that bad accident on Friday in the FP2, then we couldn't get into the Q2. You can't talk with ifs, ands, or buts, however, this result is a great boost of confidence."
Did you expect a result like this one?
"He always has incredible motivation and manages to keep it high even within our group. Today the pain had subsided even though he was facing a very long race. For me, this second place is worth as much as a first."
Were you worried that Friday's fall could've nipped his weekend in the bud?
"Right off the bat, we were worried, because we had also experienced this injury with Alex last year and, when you suffer an injury like that, you can't do anything. You just need to rest. The moment it was diagnosed as just a big contusion of the cartilage, we breathed a big sigh of relief. What can I say. Marc gave an incredible show of strength and unique determination."
Alex also performed reallt well, fresh from his renewal.
"Of course! We believe in him a lot. There are riders who need serenity to perform at their best. I think he did great, with a well-deserved podium."
Finally, there's the market. Diggia seems destined to remain with VR46, but there are Aldeguer, Oliveira, and Morbidelli on the market.
"There are different options, different projects, and we're taking time to assess everything. We'll know better at Silverstone."
