MotoGP, Zarco: "When I signed, I thought I'd be in the 10, but we ride only to test"

"When I see Bagnaia's pace, I realize we're behind. There's still a lot of work to do, and even just getting close to Yamaha won't be easy. The podium? Not realistic."

MotoGP: Zarco:

Last Sunday, in Assen, Johann Zarco crossed the finish line in 13th place, making him the best Honda rider. But, even if  there's not much to celebrate - in light of a 42"767 gap from the winner, Bagnaia - the French rider admitted that he finally enjoyed racing with his RC213V.

"It was cooler than during the sprint, where I struggled, and that helped me a lot. Thanks to the weather conditions, the bike behaved well, and the grip was also good," he said, analyzing his race.

One swallow does not a summer make and, although they got points in Holland, there's still a lot of work to be done. "We're still in a fine-tuning phase, where we have to follow others. The only duel was with Augusto Fernandez. He finished ahead of me on Saturday but, in the GP, I was able to avenge myself," he stated.

With a good dose of realism, the rider from Cannes also pointed out the distance from Yamaha. "If we make a comparison with Quartararo, we're still quite far behind from his performance, and he's the same from the ones ahead. Ours is a kind of race within a race. If we then look at Pecco, what lies ahead becomes even more clear. Both us, as riders, and the brand, can't accept this situation, so we'll have to keep working."

Although he knows he's taking a step back, or even more, compared to his Ducati period, the 33-year-old rider admitted, "When I signed for the LCR team, I thought it would be possible to finish in the top ten, but I was wrong. For now, we're racing without goals, but only with the will to experiment. Maybe between now and the end of the season the top ten will be feasible. Surely, the podium is unapproachable. And, if in 2025 we end up battling for a victory, it would be a real surprise," he concluded.
