SBK, Petrucci: "I didn't think I was going to finish the race. I was afraid I'd fall."

"Since I wasn't able to keep the bike up and was struggling in corners, I tried to change my riding style. The last five laps were terrible because of the vibrations but, overall, I'm happy to have finished in the top ten. Tomorrow? I don't know if I'm going to make it."

SBK: Petrucci:

Last April, Danilo Petrucci probably experienced the worst accident he has ever had in his career. While training on the motocross track in Cingoli, in the province of Macerata, the native from Terni fell and fractured his teeth, his jaw in two places, as well as his scapula and collarbone. Just two months later, a bit like a highlander, mixed with a big-hearted centaur, he was back on his bike and, despite the pain, he didn't want to miss out on the SBK GP at Misano.

Between the pain in his shoulder and his good will, the latter of the two won the bet, and he crossed the finish line of Race 1 in an honorable 9th place. "Yesterday, given my condition, I didn't think I was going to finish. And, even this morning, I had the same feeling. It was really tough, especially in the fast right-hand corners, considering I was losing half a second at the hairpin alone," he stated.

"The problem was that I couldn't control the bike, so I tried to change riding style and tighten my legs on the tank to hold myself when braking. Since I couldn't manage myself well, I then tried to use the back brake to lighten the front, but I started feeling really strong vibrations. The last five laps were terrible, mainly because, between the adrenaline and the stress, you don't realize what's happening. If you can't do the corners, you stiffen up even more," he said, recalling his race.

"Mentally, it was difficult, since I was really afraid of falling," he later admitted. "That said, finishing in the top ten was a surprise. On one hand, I feel bad because who knows what I could've done with both arms. But, okay, the speed and consistency are there. I've always been in the top five this year, and I'd like to get back there. Tomorrow? I don't know if I'll be able to. The worst is not feeling when I pull my arm up when at a standing still, on the motorcycle. Also thanks to the infiltrations, the situation is improving, so I'm very happy, because I really didn't think I'd be here."
